The Information editor in chief Jessica Lessin sent out the following announcement:
Hi team,
A couple of exciting pieces of hiring news. We’re thrilled to announce that Nick Wingfield from the New York Times and Wayne Ma from the Wall Street Journal will be joining our teams. This continues an incredible quarter of hiring—including the hiring of Jessica Toonkel, Beejoli Shah, Matt Drange and Jon Victor—and will bring our editorial staff up to 24. We also down to finalists for two to three more roles and expect to be expanding the team further in the coming weeks.
Now a little about Nick and Wayne.
Nick will be joining The Information as a senior editor, based in Seattle. Nick is a veteran technology reporter who has spent the past seven years at The New York Times and before that 14 years at the Wall Street Journal.
Over that time he has covered Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, AOL and the videogame world, proving himself one of the smartest tech writers around. He’s also one of the classiest colleagues around, something we learned through close work at the WSJ. (Nick and Martin covered the AOL Time Warner merger together.)
Nick will lead a team of San Francisco-based reporters covering most of the big tech companies. We’re confident his expertise will help elevate our coverage even further. Nick will remain based in Seattle but will visit San Francisco regularly. He will start June 11.
Wayne will be joining as a reporter in our Hong Kong bureau, working with Shai, Juro and Yunan. He has been covering China tech for the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones in Beijing since 2008 and has distinguished himself as an incredible scoop machine. He and Juro together broke a slew of stories on Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu.
Before joining WSJ/Dow Jones, Wayne reported for Bloomberg.
His addition to the team in Hong Kong will further solidify our dominance covering the most important Chinese tech companies. Wayne will join some time this summer.
Please join us in welcoming both to the team.
