Kristy Rupon, the business editor of The State in Columbia, S.C., is leaving the daily on Feb. 20 to take a job as a senior writer and editor with AgFirst Farm Credit Bank in Columbia.
Rupon started her career as an intern at The State in 1994 from Columbia College. She has been back at the paper for 12 years.
In addition to editing The State’s business pages and business reporters, Rupon also writes “Shop Around,” a popular column on retail developments in the Midlands.
“Leaving journalism was a hard decision and one that took a long time to make,” said Rupon in an email to Talking Biz News. “Ultimately, it was necessary for my well-being. A part of my heart will always be in the newsroom. But I am looking forward to my next chapter.”
Rupon, 41, also worked at the Camden (S.C.) Chronicle-Independent and Spartanburg (S.C.) Herald-Journal.
