Toni Fitzgerald of Media Life writes about how the NASDAQ posted a seven-story tall photo of Nightly Business Report anchor Paul Kangas recently as a way to say goodbye to the retiring business journalist.
Fitzgerald writes, “It was a surprise tribute to Kangas from the folks at NASDAQ, who did the billboard for free. Kangas, who will retire on Dec. 31, did not know about it ahead of time.
“‘Paul was blown away by it,’ says Stuart Zuckerman, vice president of sales and marketing for the show. ‘He was called into the newsroom in Miami supposedly for a meeting, and there was a large-screen TV that carried a live feed of the image. We also aired a clip of it on that night’s program.’
“The likeness is striking, except for the black spaces on his face, which are windows in the tower.
“Wishing an outgoing employee a fond farewell isn’t generally noteworthy; this is because of the large scale of the goodbye and because of who was receiving the recognition.”
