April 7, 2009

Reuters named Tuesday Keith McAllister to the newly created role of global editor, online, joining the multimedia management team and consumer media management team.

McAllister will be based in New York and report into Chris Cramer, global editor, multimedia.

McAllister is charged with editorial and production oversight of all online operations for Reuters News, and will oversee the packaging, programming and publishing of editorial content for Reuters News websites and retail customers.

McAllister will work closely with editorial, technology and the media division to create multimedia products for existing and online operations, and serve as the main link between Reuters News news gathering/production, and the online operation across text, video, pictures and graphics.

Prior to joining Reuters, McAllister was the CEO of Mochila, a web-based business that has become the world’s leading source of high-quality rights-managed content and a provider of premium advertising solutions for brand marketers.

In his last role at CNN, McAllister was executive vice president and managing editor for national newsgathering, where he was responsible for newsgathering in the US and Canada and oversaw 500 staff in 9 bureaus across the US.

“Keith’s strong understanding of the external consumer business landscape, partnered with his track record for driving innovations and proven leadership capabilities make him a perfect fit for this new, exciting role,” said Cramer in a statement. “I am thrilled to add Keith to the team and together I look forward to building on Thomson Reuters distinguished multimedia and online ventures.”

“Reuters is a global gold standard for news and information,” said McAllister.  “I’m thrilled to be joining Chris Cramer’s team.”
