New York Times senior financial writer Diana Henriques has signed a contract with Times Books to write a book about disgraced investor Bernie Madoff, tentatively called “A World of Lies.”
Matthew Flamm of Crain’s New York Business writes, “Ms. Henriques has been leading the Times coverage of Mr. Madoff since news broke in December that the former investment manager had been running the largest Ponzi scheme in history.
“In signing up Ms. Henriques, Times Books has joined a crowded race to produce the most attention-grabbing Madoff tome.
“Portfolio, a business imprint of the Penguin Group, announced Thursday that it had signed up business writer Erin Arvedlund to write about the Madoff scandal. Ms. Arvedlund has the distinction of having written an article for Barron’s in 2001 that raised questions about Mr. Madoff’s methods and results.
“HarperCollins has signed up former WCBS-Channel 2 political commentator Andrew Kirtzman. Random House has a deal with journalist Richard Behar. Phoenix Books in Los Angeles is at work on a quickie book on the scandal by Deborah and Gerald Strober that is due out in March.”
