Keith Benman has been named the business editor for The Times of Northwest Indiana, the second-largest newspaper in the state of Indiana with a Sunday circulation of more than 90,000.
Joseph Pete of The Times writes, “He’ll be responsible for overseeing The Times’ comprehensive coverage of local industry, employment, the economy and how it impacts readers’ lives.
“‘Keith has done an outstanding job for several years at The Times, and we’re pleased to have him lead our business coverage moving forward. The business community knows him,’ Times Editor Bob Heisse said. ‘He’ll work as a writer-editor, continuing to report on the top business stories in the region along with his staff.’
“A thorough beat reporter with a watchdog mentality, Benman has covered some of the region’s most significant stories in recent years, including the Illiana Expressway and the Gary/Chicago International Airport expansion.
“‘I plan to build on the long tradition of strong Times business reporting,’ Benman said. ‘While other news outlets are cutting back or eliminating business coverage altogether, our Times business section will be enhanced. Readers will soon see a new column written by me as well as more national business news.'”
