Montana newspaper cuts stock listings

The Billings Gazette in Montana is cutting its stock listings during the week and will instead run the AP’s “Money & Markets” page, writes editor Steve Prosinski.

Prosinski wrote, “Here’s hoping that Tuesday’s stock market performance will head in the right direction for you – up, up, up. All this talk of recession (are we there yet?) certainly has investors on edge – and seeking an edge to keep their savings accounts and investment portfolios healthy. Monday’s holiday on Wall Street will only add to the anticipation of Tuesday market watchers.

“Market watchers who turn to The Gazette on Wednesday for business and financial news will find it presented in a different format. Our new Money & Markets pages will help readers better understand why the markets did what they did, why some stocks soared on Tuesday while others sagged. These revamped weekday business pages, which will appear Tuesday through Saturday (except during holiday weeks), will feature:

• An easy-to-read summary of key results of the previous day’s trading,

• A recap of nine important indexes and averages, including Standard & Poor’s 500, Nasdaq composite, NYSE composite, Wilshire 5000 and Dow Jones industrial, transportation and utilities. The recap will highlight index trends over the previous week, month and quarter. A diary of activity on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market is also part of this recap.”
