Layoffs at the Cincinnati Enquirer and the Cleveland Plain Dealer claimed business journalists on Tuesday.
At the Enquirer, assistant managing editor for business Carolyn Pione has lost her job.
In an e-mail to her staff on Tuesday, Pione wrote, “Thank you for all you taught me, and for helping me to enjoy this job so much. It’s been a great privilege.”
Pione became the AME for business in July 2006.  She replaced Brian Schwaner, who resigned to become news editor for Louisiana at the Associated Press in New Orleans.
Pione, 39, a native of suburban Columbus, earned a bachelor’s degree at Miami University and a master’s degree at Louisiana State University. She joined The Enquirer’s staff in March 2004 as an assistant business editor. She was promoted to deputy business editor in March 2005.
Meanwhile, at the Plain Dealer, Sarah Hollander, a former metro reporter who had moved to the business desk earlier this year to cover manufacturing, was cut from the staff. She covered transportation before moving to business.
Ironically, it was Hollander who covered the paper’s announcement back in October that it was cutting 38 unionized newsroom positions.
