Dave Kansas, who was the first editor in chief of TheStreet.com, said Friday that the person who succeeded him, Dave Morrow, is the reason why the financial news site is so successful.
Kansas, who is now with The Wall Street Journal in Europe, was commenting in the wake of the disclosure that Morrow, 49, is suffering from cancer. Morrow left TheStreet.com last year summer to become a business journalism professor at the University of Nevada.
In an e-mail to Talking Biz News, Kansas said, “Dave and I met when he came in to succeed me at TheStreet.com in 2001. He was incredibly gracious and made what could have been a period of awkward transition very smooth.
“As editor, he built upon the youthful beginnings of TheStreet.com and he’s one of the main reasons TSC is still alive, vibrant and most relevant today. He has a great deal to be proud of, especially in terms of his editorial accomplishments.
“In more recent years we worked together for the Society of American Business Editors and Writers. He was an active board member and frequently and ably championed various online ideas, which was crucial given SABEW’s origins in the dead tree world.
“My prayers are with Dave, his loved ones and his family. He has a great legacy, and I pray he will have many opportunities to add to it.”
