Bill Schadewald, who has been editor of the Houston Business Journal since 1977, announced plans to retire by the end of the year on Thursday.
A story on the paper’s site states, “Schadewald has been an institution in Houston journalism, having joined the Business Journal in its very early days in 1973 as a reporter and jack-of-all-trades. He was named editor in 1977, and also writes the popular ‘Bull Market’ column for the weekly newspaper.
“Schadewald announced his retirement Aug. 12 to the newspaper’s staff. His final day at the paper has not yet been determined.
“‘There have been many people who have helped make our company stand out in Houston’s media mix. But if I were to single out the one person who was most influential in making our company great and making Houston a better city, it would be Bill,’ said Houston Business Journal Publisher John Beddow.
“‘His talents and contributions are many. I think among the most important are: The institutional memory he has accumulated during his many years at the helm of our newsroom; his ability to recruit, hire and train business journalists who have a passion for the job, and his unerring insight into our city — and communicating that in meaningful ways to our readers.'”
