The Financial Times has hired Claire Bushey in its Chicago bureau to lead reporting on manufacturing in the American Midwest.

Bushey will cover a range of topics including spearheading coverage of Boeing and the “Big Three” automakers.

The new hire comes as part of the London-based news organization’s effort to expand as part of its new American growth strategy.

Peter Spiegel, the FT’s U.S. managing editor, said: “Claire brings a sterling track record of covering Boeing’s 737 MAX scandal as well as unparalleled expertise in the manufacturing sector, which has become a key story for us as Donald Trump attempts to use tariffs against China and trade policy more generally to shore up the U.S. industrial heartland.”

Previously, Bushey was employed at Crain’s Chicago Business, where she covered manufacturing, logistics and professional services. Additionally, she also edited a book of essays by Chicago Catholics, “An Irrepressible Hope,” in 2012.

Bushey holds degrees from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and City University of London.
