Friedman's column criticizing Cramer draws reader responses
July 8, 2006
MarketWatch columnist Jon Friedman criticized the antics of CNBC “MadMoney” host Jim Cramer earlier this month, and he wrote earlier this week that the column on Cramer drew the most responses he has ever received from readers.
Friedman wrote, “I had written a column respectfully criticizing the over-the-top antics of CNBC’s wild Jim Cramer. Readers sent me about 500 emails. Now, you can argue that Maureen Dowd must get that many before her first cup of coffee in the morning. But for me, the number represented a real outpouring, which by the way, ran roughly 60-40 in favor of Cramer. His legions of loyal viewers told me that they appreciated his enthusiasm and stock-market picks.
“The letter that made the greatest impression on me came from a reader named Mike, whom I’ve never met nor remembered hearing from before. Apparently a big Cramer fan, Mike sought to knock me off what he perceived as my critic’s high horse.
“Mike wrote, in part: ‘And who the hell are YOU, again?’
“I laughed out loud at his audacity – and it seemed I wasn’t the only one. The intensity of Mike’s response also made an impact on Fox News’ business anchor Neil Cavuto. Taking a good-natured and well-received poke at me, Cavuto wrote to me to say he ‘LOVED’ that particular email, too.
