Gady Epstein is the media editor. Prior to that he took over as Beijing bureau chief of The Economist in 2014. In that role and before that as China correspondent since 2011, he has written about politics and society, with special interests in inequality, public policy and the internet.
Previously, he served as Beijing bureau chief for Forbes for four years. He began covering China and Asia, with a sub-specialty in North Korea, in 2002, first as Beijing bureau chief for The Baltimore Sun, then as international projects reporter for the newspaper. He studied English language and literature at Harvard.
Charlotte Howard joined The Economist in 2004 and is currently the consumer goods and marketing correspondent. From 2011 to 2014 she was The Economist‘s health-care correspondent, covering the health industry, health-care policy in America and global health.
From 2007 to 2011 she was The Economist’s Midwest correspondent, based in Chicago. While in the Midwest she covered American politics and a range of policy issues, including education, agriculture and transport. She is a graduate of Yale University.
