Economist passes 700,000 subscribers in North America

The Economist’s North American circulation has pushed past the 700,000 mark for the first time.

According to preliminary figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations for the last six months of 2007, the circulation of the magazine is now 720,882, up 13.1 percent year on year.

Newsstand sales are 68,337, up 10.1 percent.

These figures represent total growth of 110 percent in North America since 2000.

“Across America, there is a group of people united not by age or demographics, but by how they think and how they look at things. They are compelled by ideas, and are as interested in the ‘why’ as in the ‘what,’” said Paul Rossi, publisher of The Economist in North America, in a statement. “This group of ‘ideas people’ is growing, and the magazine they read is The Economist.”
