Jeannine Aversa, who left the Associated Press earlier this year for Bloomberg News, joined the Bureau of Economic Analysis late last month.
Her new title is chief of public affairs and outreach. She had joined Bloomberg in June to cover the Federal Reserve after covering the Fed and the Treasury Department for the AP dating back to 1999.
Earlier this year, she became the first woman reporter to ask a Federal Reserve chairman a question during a press conference. Of course, it was the first press conference ever given by a Fed chairman.
Aversa joined BEA Sept. 26. Her duties include working with reporters, economists and others who use the BEA’s statistical reports to keep track of the nation’s economic health.
“Given the intense public interest in the economy and BEA’s economic data, we could not be more pleased to have someone of Jeannine’s caliber joining our communications team,” said BEA Director Steve Landefeld in a statement.
She also has reported on politics, terrorism and telecommunications. She has worked for The Associated Press, Bloomberg News, Fairchild Publications and other news organizations.
