The New York Times notes that CJRDaily’s The Audit, a blog that criticizes business journalism, has been under attack recently from others in the business for its pedestrian analysis of the industry. Among those criticizing it have been investigative reporter Gary Weiss and BusinessWeek.
Times reporter Dan Mitchell notes that the editor of The Audit, Mark Mitchell, has taken to responding to these critics by posting online.
Mitchell wrote, “He also criticized newspapers for having separate sections, which he said ‘serves only to skew information and news.’ Mr. Mitchell has similarly taken to other message boards, including BusinessWeek’s, to angrily defend the Audit against its detractors (businessweek.com).
“Still, the Audit does often offer cogent analysis in pursuing its basic theme: too much business journalism concentrates too heavily on market movements and relies on moneymaking tips in lieu of hard-hitting coverage.”
