Jim Kelly, the former editor of the weekly Pacific Business News until earlier this year, has been named senior editor of dayside operations for The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, Calif.
In addition, James Meier, The Desert Sun’s former local news editor, assumes a new role as senior editor for business.
A story states, “A Desert Sun editor for nearly five years, Meier played a key role in directing the newspaper’s coverage of the Sawtooth and Esperanza wildfires in 2006 and the death of former President Gerald Ford, also that year. The Orange County native and California State University, Fullerton graduate worked as a reporter and editor at several other Southern California newspapers before joining The Desert Sun.
“He will oversee a strategy to provide deeper and more relevant coverage of the desert’s active business scene.
“‘We’ve made some great improvements to the all-local Sunday business section over the past year or so, but there’s always room to do more,’ Meier said. ‘We have a strong staff that is up to the challenge both daily and on Sundays. I look forward to spearheading those sophisticated efforts that our readers expect from us in the newspaper and online.'”
