Business Insider editor in chief Alyson Shontell sent out the following announcement to the staff:
Hi all,
I’m thrilled to announce that we have a new Executive Editor, Matt Turner!
He will join Ashley in co-leading our newsroom and report to me.
For those who have worked closely with Matt, you know how talented he is. Matt joined us three years ago from Dow Jones’ Financial News, where he was US editor.
He embodies our “make it happen” culture and fully understands our ambitions for building BI into the world’s leading newsroom.
He has already helped take our journalism to the next level and led by example, whether he’s interviewing Jamie Dimon, scooping Bank of America layoffs, or getting his hands on Larry Fink’s CEO letter.
Matt has turned our finance team into a powerhouse that produces enviable original reporting (like Rachael Levy and Olivia Oran’s extraordinary D.E. Shaw scoop yesterday) and a boatload of Prime subscriptions.
He was also the brainchild behind Prime and has been integral in its successful launch alongside Claudius.
With Matt as Executive Editor, some of the reporting structure on BI will change. We will hammer out those details and let you know which sections he will be overseeing soon.
In the meantime, please join me in congratulating Matt on his promotion!
Alyson
