Born, former WSJ and Barron’s reporter, dies at 95

Roscoe Born, who wrote for The Wall Street Journal and Barron’s out of their Washington bureaus, died Sept. 30 at the age of 95.

Tim Hrenchir of the Topeka (Kans.) Capital-Journal writes, “He left the State Journal in August 1957 to join the Washington, D.C., Bureau of the Wall Street Journal. The State Journal, an afternoon newspaper, and the Daily Capital, a morning newspaper, later merged in 1981 as The Capital-Journal.

“Born primarily covered the labor movement but also reported on politics during his four years with the Wall Street Journal, including covering the 1960 presidential campaign.

“When Dow Jones & Co. initiated the weekly National Observer in 1961, Born became one of its founders, serving as associate editor.

“The State Journal’s Jim Petterson wrote in a 1961 column about how Born visited Topeka while arranging for regional news coverage for the Observer.”
