Bloomberg News is looking for a reporter in London to cover professional services firms globally. The job offers a unique opportunity to shape a crucial beat for one of the world’s leading news organizations. You’ll be spearheading our coverage of some of the world’s most influential companies, from the Big 4 accountancy firms to management consultancies.

We’re looking for a reporter who will be first to know what’s going on inside the boardrooms of firms like Deloitte, EY, McKinsey and Bain. We want a self-starter who understands our readers and can break news on everything from strategic shifts to job cuts.

Professional services firms are the backbone of the business world so your mandate will also include using the reach and influence of these firms to elevate our wider coverage, for instance by helping break news on deals that their clients are exploring.

The ideal candidate can pivot from on-the-day news to in-depth investigations and analysis. You’ll need the ability to juggle multiple stories and responsibilities at the same time.

The ability to leverage Bloomberg’s global newsroom by cooperating across teams and time zones is a vital aspect of the role.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Constantly develop sourcing at the highest levels in order to break the biggest news in the industry
  • Produce quick-fire stories as well as long-term enterprise that inform our readers
  • Willingness to explore original ways to tell our biggest stories
  • Take the initiative and drive our coverage of professional services
  • Work across the Bloomberg newsroom to elevate our coverage

You’ll need to have:

  • Minimum of five years reporting and experience of finance and breaking news
  • A proven ability to build boardroom-level sourcing
  • Sound news judgement and a talent for looking beyond the obvious story
  • A willingness to work well within a team and with others across the newsroom

We’d love to see:

  • Track record of developing senior sources
  • Ability to break high-impact news
  • Capability to write longer-form enterprise pieces
  • Comfort doing TV hits or video clips for social media to ensure your reporting gets multiplied across all our many formats
