Andrew Leckey, a longtime business journalist and business journalism educator, died July 11 at 76.
An obituary states, “For 25 years, Andrew was investment columnist for the Chicago Tribune guiding readers through an ever-changing financial world. When many believed journalists had to choose newspapers or television, Andrew built careers in both. He worked as the business reporter for Channel 7 in Chicago and CNBC in New York. He was author/editor of 10 books.
“His second career as business journalism professor, starting programs at UC Berkeley, Boston University, and as founding president of the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at Arizona State’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. He helped train more than 20,000 journalists, established internationally recognized journalism programs and was so proud of his students. He received three Fulbright awards, China, Uganda, and Taiwan. In 2023, he was awarded SABEW’s President’s award.”
