Bloomberg LP has hired a senior advertising executive, Jacki Kelley, as chief operating officer of its media business, the company announced on Tuesday, its latest hire from outside journalism as it seeks to transform its business under new leadership, reports Ravi Somaiya of the New York Times.
Somaiya writes, “Ms. Kelley , who was chief executive for IPG Mediabrands North America, had previously worked in sales and business roles at USA Today and Yahoo, and for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, before switching to buying rather than selling advertising.
“Bloomberg Media’s chief executive, Justin B. Smith, said he hired Ms. Kelley because she had ‘a very deep understanding of the global advertising piece of media. Advertising is a significant revenue stream and a big growth opportunity.’ Ms. Kelley will also focus on marketing Bloomberg’s media business and its conferences, as well as ‘unglamorous and necessary operational work.’
“Bloomberg has also recently hired marketing and advertising executives from General Electric, the Atlantic and Time Inc., as well as a publishing executive from The Guardian.”
