Bloomberg News senior executive editor of Americas Jacqueline Simmons and managing editor Flynn McRoberts sent out the following announcement:
We’re excited to announce that Carey Goldberg will be joining Bloomberg as our Boston bureau chief. The CommonHealth editor at WBUR (Boston’s NPR affiliate), Carey previously served as the Boston bureau chief of The New York Times, Moscow correspondent for The Los Angeles Times, and a health/science reporter for The Boston Globe. She was a Knight Science Journalism fellow at MIT and graduated summa cum laude from Yale. She’ll be taking over from Tom Moroney, who has run the bureau with wit and wisdom for more than a decade while building up its Bloomberg Radio operation — a role he’ll continue to deftly fill. Carey’s background in health care, bio tech and other matters core to the country’s economic and public-health recovery from Covid will make her indispensable.
And if you’re wondering what kind of colleague she’ll be, allow us to quote from WBUR’s departure note: “Her command of the health and science fields is matched only by her deep journalism talents. Carey has a gift for stories that break through, challenge, and inspire. That teach us about our world and ourselves.”
Please join us in welcoming Carey to Bloomberg. She will begin Monday, March 29.
