Barro departs Insider, starting newsletter and podcast

Josh Barro

Business Insider senior editor Josh Barro is leaving the news organization and starting his own newsletter and podcast.

The podcast will be called “Very Serious with Josh Barro.”

While at Business Insider, he wrote commentary on politics, business, and the economy.

Before joining Business Insider, he was a founding correspondent at The Upshot, the economics and data section of The New York Times. Before that, he was Business Insider’s politics editor. Before entering journalism, he worked in policy research for think tanks and as a real-estate banker at Wells Fargo.

Barro is a contributor to MSNBC; host of KCRW’s “Left, Right & Center“; and cohost with Linette Lopez of “Hard Pass.” He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Harvard College.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
