Shan Li, South Asia correspondent at The Wall Street Journal, has been named a Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellow at the University of Michigan.

She will explore how economic discontent is fueling Gen Z revolutions across Asia and the U.S.

Li covers India and the surrounding region for The Journal’s New Delhi bureau. Her articles often focus on politics and economic issues in South Asia. She has reported on everything from India’s passion for films to its efforts to bring mobile payments to tiny villages.

She previously wrote about Chinese tech giants as a correspondent in Beijing and reported on the pandemic from both China and New York.

Shan joined the Journal from the Los Angeles Times, where her beats included energy, retail and the California economy.
