Fortune hires Herrera as tech correspondent

Fortune has hired Sebastian Herrera as a technology correspondent, based in San Francisco.

He will be covering companies involved in artificial intelligence and the infrastructure behind the technology.

He was at The Wall Street Journal, with a focus on Microsoft, artificial intelligence and cloud computing. He writes about how AI is transforming the way people work and live, its promises and risks and the infrastructure that underpins the technology. He also reports on how tech leaders are shaping Silicon Valley and beyond.

Herrera has also written extensively about Amazon, including about its AI initiatives, the unionization movement at the company and its dominant delivery services.

Previously, He worked at the Austin American-Statesman, where he wrote about the city’s booming tech scene, Austin-based Whole Foods Market and startups. He also has worked as a reporter for the Houston Chronicle, where he often wrote human interest stories and reported on the region’s large population of immigrants, education and suburban news.

His reporting has shed light on the power of large tech companies, how advanced technologies are shaping our future and the plights of everyday people. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.
