Russell Sherman of “Press Profiles” interviewed Business Insider editor in chief Jamie Heller interviewed her about her job after being at The Wall Street Journal for more than two decades.

Heller said she was attracted to the “hustle culture” at Business Insider, saying “it was nipping at my heels” when she ran business coverage at the Journal.

“I had to sit up and pay attention,” said Heller. “It was really impressive how Business Insider came out of nowhere and become a force in journalism. That was something I respected.”

Heller joined Business Insider in September 2024 at a time when it needed to refocus on business news coverage after expanding into other areas of journalism. She also shifted it away from aggregation and emphasized original reporting.

She said it became important for Business Insider to develop its own audience instead of relying on social media.

“There is such a hunger for great journalism,” she said. “…We must have journalism that you can’t find anywhere else.”
