Nick Baumann, politics and government editor at The Washington Post, send out the following announcement on Monday:

We are thrilled to announce a slate of new hires and changes to the Economics Team.

Riley Beggin will embark on a new job as White House Economic Policy Reporter, covering taxes, trade, energy costs and other issues shaping President Trump’s economic agenda.

A tenacious reporter with a strong track record of landing scoops and producing impactful enterprise reporting, Riley is already an indispensable member of The Post’s economics team. In her short time here, she has left The Post’s coverage of the two longest back-to-back government shutdowns in U.S. history. Her scoops include stories about the White House abandoning its pledge to mandate IVF coverage and a Democratic-led stock trading ban that derailed a partisan effort on the verge of passing. She also recently reported on how high gras prices are playing in a key House swing district.

Previously, Riley covered Congress for USA Today and economics for the Detroit News.

We also want to extend a warm welcome to Jarrell Dillard, the newest member of the Economics Team.

Jarrell will take over as The Post’s Congressional Economic Policy Reporter, joining us from Bloomberg News, where he covered Congress and the U.S. economy, with a focus on the intersection of the economy and politics. He reported on tax and fiscal policy on Capitol Hill, including coverage of President Trump’s tax law negotiations. He also wrote about how lawmakers’ decisions affected workers, consumers and businesses across the country.

As a congressional reporter, Jarrell played a key role in breaking news on the Biden administration’s negotiations over student loan forgiveness and covered progressive lawmakers and intraparty policy debates on Capitol Hill. In addition to reporting on inflation, the labor market he also scooped Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s opposition to EJ Antoni’s nomination to lead the Bureau of Labor Statistics
