Brian Thevenot has been tapped to lead the Reuters global team of specialist correspondents covering an industry undergoing the most profound changes in a century, disrupted by new technologies, the drive toward electric vehicles and the challenges to globalization.
Thevenot brings to the role a remarkable track record of producing award-winning coverage across an array of government and business beats for nearly three decades. Before joining Reuters in 2016, he worked for newspapers including The Times-Picayune of New Orleans and The Los Angeles Times, where he led the paper’s automotive coverage as a deputy business editor. He has reported or edited stories that have won two Pulitzer Prizes, Two George Polk Awards and a Gerald Loeb Award.
At Reuters, Thevenot has worked as a publishing editor for the top news, spot enterprise and enterprise desks. In those roles, he has edited some of our most ambitious coverage on energy and the environment, the aftermath of Donald Trump’s presidency and, this year, a series of investigative reports on Elon Musk’s corporate empire.
A lifelong car enthusiast, Thevenot says he is thrilled to cover the auto industry during a historic upheaval amid the transition away from fossil fuels. Among his prized possessions is a teal green 1993 Volvo 240 Classic Limited Edition.
