Adam O’Neal, Washington correspondent for The Economist, has been hired as opinion editor at The Washington Post.

He has been at The Economist since September 2023.

“His appointment is about more than just filling a role; it is about connecting our editorial voice to the real concerns and conversations happening across America,” publisher Will Lewis said in a memo announcing the hire.

Before The Economist, O’Neal was at The Dispatch as executive editor. Previously, O’Neal was an editorial page writer at The Wall Street Journal. Before that, he was an assistant op-ed editor.

Prior to joining the Journal, O’Neal was a Vatican correspondent at the international TV news agency Rome Reports. Before that, he was a general assignment reporter at RealClearPolitics. O’Neal has a B.A. from the University of California, Irvine.

The Post’s opinion pages have been under turmoil this year after owner Jeff Bezos dictated new policies, leading to resignations by columnists and editors.
