The Dallas Morning News seeks a journalist with a strong sense of curiosity and accountability to cover the growing world of wealth and philanthropy in North Texas, a new beat for the Business team.

From major charitable foundations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to local billionaire donors and the rise of corporate giving and faith-based philanthropy, this beat sits at the intersection of money, influence and civic life.

This reporter will break exclusive stories, craft deeply reported enterprise and investigative features, and explain how wealth shapes the region — primarily concentrating on North Texas.

The News is rapidly expanding its Business team to produce the most dominant, distinctive coverage in Texas with robust digital storytelling, the new “Commerce Street” LinkedIn newsletter and a reimagined Business Sunday section in print and ePaper.

  • Develop sources within the philanthropy, finance, real estate and nonprofit sectors, as well as among watchdog groups and community advocates
  • Scrutinize IRS filings, campaign finance records, real estate transactions and other public documents to uncover newsworthy trends and hidden dynamics
  • Collaborate with editors, data and visual journalists, and other newsroom teams to elevate coverage
  • Produce a mix of daily stories, longer-term enterprise pieces and occasional investigations
  • Represent The Dallas Morning News at community and industry events when needed
