Russell Sherman of “Press Profiles” spoke with Alice Fulwood of The Economist, who is its Wall Street correspondent, about how she got into journalism.
Fulwood originally worked on a foreign exchange trading floor for an investment bank. She first joined the publication in 2018 on an internship sponsored by the Marjorie Deane Foundation, a charity where she now serves as a trustee.
“It was an unbelievably deep learning experience,” said Fulwood. “But I ultimately learned it wasn’t for me.”
After writing reports about Asian economies, Fulwood decided that she wanted to try journalism when she was 26.
“I really wanted to be in a place where I could write about things that I thought were interesting but also incentivized to write about what I thought was compelling,” she said.
She moved back to London from Singapore and was sold on journalism after the first week of her internship.
