The NewsGuild of New York, which represents Reuters editorial staffers, has filed an unfair labor practice charge against the company.
The union wants to hold negotiating sessions open to its members while the company won’t meet in that format, preferring that the meetings only include negotiation committee members.
From the union’s perspective, the refusal to come to bargaining is something called “bad faith bargaining,” which is a violation of labor law.
A Reuters representative did not reply to requests for comment.
Union journalists used the company’s new hyped artificial intelligence software to analyze the correspondence between management and the Guild bargaining committee.
Here’s what Reuters’ AI said: “Based on the content of the email exchange and the standards of the U.S. National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and relevant NLRB rulings, the employer appears to be attempting to place an unlawful precondition on bargaining.”
