Quartz has hired Sarah Douglass as its executive editor.

In this role, Douglass will manage journalists, drive news planning and coverage, and look to strengthen and streamline operations.

Her editorial experience encompasses a variety of different newsrooms, including CBS Radio and The Daily Mail. She has successfully built new workflows and processes for far-flung breaking news events on TV and digital and helped launch new radio programs from scratch. Douglas joins Quartz most recently from Fox Weather, where she was a senior editor.

“Sarah brings a great mix of good news judgment, digital chops, strategic savvy, operational excellence, and strong, empathetic leadership,” said editor in chief Dan Hirshhorn in a statement. “I’m thrilled to have her as a partner in leading the newsroom as Quartz continues to significantly grow our audience.”

Douglass got her bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and her master’s from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
