
Annie Yu has been named influence and lobbying editor at Politico.
Yu has been a a deputy Congress editor focused on its Congress newsletter and on supporting other editing needs for its live blog and subscriber platform.
She began working at Politico in 2018 as the newsroom’s first director of engagement. She built the team and oversaw all aspects of social storytelling, off-platform distribution and engagement planning, including for the 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2024 election cycles. She also edited and trained multiple teams on sharp, compelling writing for off-platform spaces. In 2024, her responsibilities expanded to include on-platform editing needs across the newsroom, including during major presidential cycle news moments like primary elections, convention weeks and debates. She joined the Congress team in 2025.
Before Politico, Yu was an engagement editor at the Los Angeles Times, where she led rollout plans for the newsroom’s biggest enterprise and investigative projects and was part of the team that won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the 2015 terrorist attack in San Bernardino.
A California native, she studied journalism and political science at Azusa Pacific University, where she won three Los Angeles Press Club awards for her writing and led the student newspaper to its first-ever national honors.
