
Neville Nankivell, former editor-in-chief, publisher and columnist for the Financial Post, died May 3 of cancer at his home in Ottawa.
He was 91.
An obituary states, “In 1956, after joining the Canadian Press, he moved to Toronto and graduated from the University of Toronto with a Master of Commerce degree. He captained the 1959 championship rugby team that was inducted into U of T’s Sports Hall of Fame.
“Following graduation, he began a 40-year career with the Financial Post. From his university days, he was involved in newspaper layout and in the 1980s on behalf of the FP design team headed by friend and colleague Chris Watson, accepted the Society of Newspaper’s gold award on behalf of the FP design team, edging out The New York Times.
“From Toronto he moved to London in 1991 as FP’s Editor-at-Large based at the Financial Times before returning to Canada as head of FP’s Ottawa bureau.”
