Ashley Carman of Bloomberg reports that Kevin Roose and Casey Newton, two prominent tech journalists launching their own company and a show focused on artificial intelligence, could garner as much as $5 million annually for their work.

Carman reports, “Roose and Newton are working with United Talent Agency to shop around for a potential partner to bankroll the program in exchange for selling ads on the show, according to people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified while sharing non-public information. The offers are coming in at a seven-figure number annually, potentially as high as $5 million a year. They have yet to pick a partner, one person tells me.

“‘Our goal is to take the thing that makes Hard Fork work and extend it into new formats and directions,’ Roose wrote in his Substack post.

“Roose and Newton declined to comment for this newsletter.

“Part of why Roose and Newton might be able to fetch this kind of money is because technology has become a highly desirable ad category. On a July list of the top 15 sponsors of podcasts that month, Meta Platforms Inc., Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Amazon.com Inc. all show up. Those companies, as well as many others, want to advertise on tech-forward shows, in part, to reach early adopters.”
