Maddy Varner, an investigative data journalist, has left The Markup after more than four years. Her tweet reads:
“I’m no longer at The Markup. it’s been a great run, but it’s time for me to try something new. I’ll have more to say soon, but first I’m going to take some time to rest and recharge.”
Previously, Varner was a contributing researcher at ProPublica, where she wrote web scrapers, processed and cleaned PDF tables into usable data, and assisted in reporting. She was an associate designer at NewHive, where she assistaed in launching a new editorial arm of the company.
Varner graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
