We are pleased to announce that Irene Galea is taking on the telecom beat.
Since joining The Globe in 2021, Irene has proven herself to be an adventurous and energetic reporter, taking on a wide variety of assignments and delivering engaging journalism in ROB and beyond. In the past few months alone, Irene has written on a controversial real-estate developer in London, Ont., climate change affecting France’s winemakers, Trump’s would-be assassin, and Canadians’ changing feelings about cottage ownership. She recently earned a two-month placement in Germany with the Burns Fellowship, writing on a range of issues including politics, energy and housing.
Irene this year hosted season four of the City Space podcast, culminating with a one-on-one interview with Justin Trudeau, where she challenged the Prime Minister on his housing policies. She has written several colourful stories about one of her top interests – archeology, and if you ever want to discuss the finer details of historical Canadian bank architecture, Irene has the University of Cambridge credentials to speak expertly on the topic.
Irene is no stranger to telecom, having temporarily covered the sector during Rogers’ takeover of Shaw, and will continue to cover Shopify and other technology issues.
