FT’s Tett named provost of King’s College

Gillian Tett

Gillian Tett, the chair of the editorial board and U.S. editor at large at The Financial Times, has been named provost of King’s College.

She will start in October and continue to write a column for The Financial Times.

Gillian has received several awards in recognition of her work, including Columnist of the Year (2014), Journalist of the Year (2009) and Financial Journalist of the Year (2008) at the British Press Awards; the British Academy President’s Medal (2011); and the American Anthropological Association President’s Medal (2022). She has an undergraduate degree and PhD in social anthropology from the University of Cambridge, based on research conducted in the former Soviet Union in the early 1990s.

“I am thrilled to be returning to Cambridge in October, and joining the vibrant and historic King’s community to promote and support the wealth of intellectual capital found there,” said Tett in a statement.

Tett’s past roles at the FT have included U.S. managing editor, assistant editor, capital markets editor, deputy editor of the Lex column, Tokyo bureau chief, and a reporter in Russia and Brussels.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
