Fortune union: We won’t return to office until talks resume

February 28, 2025

Marco Quiroz-Gutierrez, a Fortune reporter who leads the editorial union, sent the following to magazine management on Friday:

To Fortune management,

NewsGuild newsroom employees will not be following the company’s 2025 return-to-office edict until the issue has been properly negotiated as part of a complete contract with the NewsGuild. Our bargaining committee sent the Guild’s RTO counterproposal on January 6, 2025, and you have not replied or even acknowledged receipt.

Members will instead be sticking to current routines, as any return-to-office policy is illegal until a contract is in place. Workers deemed to be remoted are signing this letter in solidarity with colleagues.

As usual, we are ready, willing, and able to resume negotiations immediately and work forward a fair and settled contract.

Sincerely,

Marco Quiroz-Gutierrez.
