Crain lays off more than 25 across publications

Detroit-based Crain Communications, which owns industry-specific publications as well as business newspapers in major cities, laid off at least 25 staffers late last week, multiple sources confirm to Talking Biz News.

The layoffs included at least four editorial staffers — online editor Phil Nussel and reporters C.J. Moore, Julie Walker and Carly Schaffner — from Automotive News.

There were also cuts at Crain’s Cleveland Business, Crain’s Chicago Business, Crain’s Detroit Business and Crain’s New York Business, where two editorial staffers were dropped.

The company did not reply to requests for comment.

Staffers were also cut at Ad Age, Modern Healthcare and Pensions & Investments, where three editorial staffers were lost. The cuts included sales staff and business operations employees.
