Business news channel CNBC will retain its name but is creating a new logo, according to a memo from Mark Lazarus, the head of Versant.
“Since its inception in 1989, CNBC — originally known as the ‘Consumer News and Business Channel’ — has distinguished itself as a trusted leader covering exclusively the global financial and business sectors. CNBC will retain its name and is working on a new logo, which will look back at its history and nod to the deep expertise of the network,” he wrote in the memo.
Versant is the company being spun off from Comcast’s NBC Universal in a separate operation.
The new company will include MSNBC, E! and USA Network.
CNBC started in 1989 as a joint venture between NBC and Cablevision. In 1991, NBC acquired the Financial News Network and merged it into CNBC.
