Business Insider editor at large Katie Roof spoke with TBPN about her work and how she breaks tech news stories.
Roof noted that she joined Business Insider this week because editor in chief Jamie Heller is focusing on breaking news and scoops.
“It’s gotten a lot more competitive these days,” said Roof. “…There’s a lot of reporters now doing what I do, and you know, being first is harder, but I think that the key is to not just go after things that are rumors that are widely circulating, because everyone can hear about that.”
She said she tries to focus about what might happen next with a company.
“People are always going to want to find out what’s going on in the world,” said Roof, noting that the best reporters focus on their people skills, which allows them to break stories because they’re always talking to sources.
