Business Insider starts daily markets newsletter

October 20, 2025

Business Insider started “First Trade,” a daily markets newsletter looking at stocks, companies, personalities, and trading strategies.

The newsletter is written by executive editor Joe Ciolli and edited by deputy editor Akin Oyedele.

Ciolli started his career as an investment banker on Wall Street, and he has spent years reporting on markets across countless cycles, from the ashes of the Great Financial Crisis through the meme-stock revolution to the ongoing Trump trade. Oyedele has been instrumental to the markets team during his 11 years at Business Insider, working as a reporter and editor.

“I’ll combine market smarts with the wit and candor of the outspoken sports-fan friend in your group chat,” said Ciolli in a statement. “Each edition will give you something new to chew on, whether it’s news, portfolio tips, expert commentary, or pop culture. Hey, you might even laugh.”

The launch reflects Business Insider’s strategy of deepening reader engagement through newsletters and new features like “follow.

“First Trade” builds on the success of Business Insider’s flagship newsletter, “Business Insider Today,” a daily digest of business and tech news, as well as newer offerings including “Tech Memo,” a weekly dive into Silicon Valley, and “Defense Flash,” a weekly roundup of reporting on the business of defense.
