Barron’s editor in chief David Cho sent out the following on Wednesday:

All,

We’re thrilled to announce Laura Sanicola is joining Barron’s as an energy beat writer who will spearhead a new Energy Insider newsletter for investors.

Laura has reported on energy and commodities at Reuters since 2019, covering oil companies, markets, and energy policy from New York and Washington DC.

Her series of scoops on the failed startup of an idled oil refinery in the U.S. Virgin Islands that failed to adequately monitor pollution in the nearby community won her a Newswomen’s Club Front Page Award for investigative reporting in 2022. She was also a finalist for internal awards at Reuters for exclusive news on President Biden’s decision to sell crude oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve and investigations into pollution levels near refineries following explosions.

Laura previously wrote about property and casualty (re)insurance at Euromoney Institutional Investor and business news at CNN Business. She is a graduate of Fordham University in New York and is working towards her masters in Global Policy at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. She lives in Washington, DC with her husband and their rescue dog.

Please join us in welcoming Laura to the newsroom. She starts May 6.
