The Ankler to debut ‘Prestige Junkie’ newsletter, Kilday named contributing editor

One of my favorite people to work with when I ran the Hollywood Reporter was film journalist Gregg Kilday, a wry, wise writer and editor whose depth of knowledge, relationships and appreciation of film were always remarkable.

He also has great taste, and suffers no fools. A trusted journalist, he is as comfortable interviewing Martin Scorsese or Steven Spielberg as he is studio chiefs or picking which small independent festival films deserve coverage.

Now I’m delighted to tell you Gregg has joined The Ankler as a contributing editor overseeing the launch of Prestige Junkie, our first dedicated newsletter focused on talent both on the screen and behind it. Prestige Junkie will start this week, publishing weekly at first, covering film, awards news and the race through the March 10th, 2024 Academy Awards.

Already, Gregg says of this awards season, “It’s looking like one of the best lineup of films in years. But there won’t be room for everything, so the awards competition should be intense.”

Though many of you are already familiar, Gregg served as film editor of the Hollywood Reporter from 2001 to 2019, reporting on and editing industry news, film festival coverage and awards season. A graduate of Harvard, he began his career at the Los Angeles Times and also served on the staffs of the Los Angeles Herald Examiner and Entertainment Weekly. His freelance work has appeared in Premiere, Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone, among other publications. He currently resides in Palm Springs and can be reached at Gregg@theankler.com.

Separately, I’m excited to tell you about a new podcast debuting in the coming days from The Ankler as well. The Art & Crafts podcast is programmed by Delphine Figueras and Alex Beatty of Industry Insiders, and takes audiences behind the scenes to examine the careers and contributions of the talented artisans who create and craft the movies and TV series that we love.

The series will feature four revolving hosts. First up as host: Jeannine Oppewall, a four-time Oscar nominee for Best Art Direction for her work on L.A. Confidential, Pleasantville, Seabiscuit and The Good Shepherd. In our premiere episode, Jeannine goes deep in conversation with costume designer Ellen Mirojnick and production designer Ruth de Jong about their magnificent work on Oppenheimer.
