The Indianapolis Star in Indiana has hired James Briggs as an opinion and community engagement editor to oversee all opinion content.
Commenting on his new role Briggs said:
“Writing columns for IndyStar was a dream job. I’m thrilled to do it again in an expanded role.
“I want IndyStar Opinion to be a civil forum for thoughtful conversations about how to make Indiana better. I’m out to prove you can be provocative while also engaging in nuanced, good faith-debate — and that there’s a large audience for that, especially here in Indiana.”
Recently, he was co-author of the Axios Indianapolis newsletter. In this role, he provided reporting and analysis on government, politics, business and other topics. He previously worked at the Star from October 2015 to December 2022 as a reporter and metro columnist.
He also held the posts of reporter, associate editor and deputy managing editor at the Baltimore Business Journal, worked for The Daily Reporter in Milwaukee and in Michigan for The Ann Arbor News and Bay City Times.
He was a sports writer at The Oakland Press.
An award-winning journalist, Briggs has a B.S. in communications from Eastern Michigan University and an M.S. in business journalism from Arizona State University.
