Gannett’s news division will undergo another round of layoffs, marking the publisher’s third move to cut costs in the last six months. As per Henry Faure Walker, the news division’s new interim head, the affected staff members will be informed on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2.
According to communications chief Lark-Marie Anton, a six percent reduction is to be expected.
Faure Walker added:
“While we have taken several steps already, we must enter the new year in a stronger economic position, and the reality is that our News cost base is currently too high for the revenues it generates.”
The layoffs will not affect some journalists represented by the NewsGuild and those in the middle of contract negotiations.
