Sarah Dowling, who joined The Daily Democrat as a staff writer in 2013, has been appointed the new editor of the publication following the retirement of longtime editor Jim Smith, effective Feb. 26.
Publisher Jim Gleim said:
“Sarah has covered Yolo County government, its court system as well as the entertainment and business community. She is well-versed in editing, layout, and design and excellent customer relations skills. I have tremendous confidence in her abilities to keep Woodland residents informed about local events as well as work with her team of reporters to provide the stories people are interested in reading.”
Recently, Dowling held the post of associate editor at the company.
She was also an on-call library assistant at the Sacramento Public Library and before that worked at Follett Higher Education Group and was an intern at Vallejo Community Access Television.
Dowling was also a marketing and media relations assistant at Sonoma State University and has worked as a staff writer at The Community Voice and Solano Community College.
Dowling is a B.A. in Communication Studies and Psychology from Sonoma State University.
